TL;DR
100% of any Affiliate Income or Commissions earnt from Vendors are used for Local Chapter Events & Meetups.
The Tech Tribe does not keep or use any of this Income ourselves at Tech Tribe HQ.
We report earnings and spendings transparently on a quarterly basis.
For the first 8 years of The Tech Tribe's journey, we didn't take a single cent of commissions, affiliate fees or kick-backs from Vendors.
This would have been potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars (if not more).
We did this as part of our #nobias philosophy as we wanted to maintain absolute integrity that the ONLY clients paying us were our members.
However a conversation Nigel had with a friend who runs a Membership Community in the eCommerce space led to us changing our approach.
That eCommerce community receives hundreds of thousands of dollars each year in Affiliate Fees and Commissions from their members using Vendors tools.
AND they use 100% of that money to put on awesome events and meetups for their Local Chapters worldwide.
We thought that was a GREAT approach as it keeps us at Tech Tribe HQ completely unbiased towards any vendor AND helps us put on some more awesome events & meetups for members around the world.
So, as of April 2024, The Tech Tribe's new policy is that wherever possible, we will use Affiliate Links and join programs to earn Commissions from Vendors.
And 100% of the money that we receive will be put towards Events & Meetups (& other cool things) for our Local Chapters around the world.
Not a single red cent of it will be kept by us at Tech Tribe HQ.
To main transparency, each quarter we will report on:
- All Revenue received via Commissions, Affiliate Fees etc
- All Expenses paid to Events & Meetup Initiatives for Local Chapters
- The Current Total Balance
As this is a brand new policy, it will take some time to start to build some momentum.
However over time, this has the opportunity to build a significant revenue stream that can go towards amazing initiatives for our Local Chapters.
